About me

I am an associate professor of English at Montgomery College in Germantown, Maryland. I have an MFA in fiction from the University of Washington and a bachelor’s in English from Cornell University. My fiction, poetry, and essays have appeared or are forthcoming in Tin House Flash Fridays, Moon City Review, Sou’westerThe Los Angeles Review, New South, Scribner’s Best of the Fiction Workshops, Every Day Fiction, and others. In addition to teaching and writing, I serve as an assistant editor for Narrative Magazine and a staff writer for Bloom: “Late” According to Whom? Prior to becoming an English instructor, I worked as an ad copywriter and an unhappy administrative assistant.

Paper Balls is my first blog.

  1. Good for you. While temperate, Levy’s piece was a cheap shot by someone who has never paid his dues. Thanks for doing it. Michael Wade, Prof. of History, Appalachian State University. University of Maryland “64.

  2. I am so horrified at the attacks on teachers and teachers’ unions in almost every sphere of public life, from politics to op-ed pages. Most, like David C. Levy, are uninformed and others are venemous. Thank you for your response to Levy, but why do you think teachers and professors are such popular targets?
